If this week's cartoon makes no sense to you, then you proabably
do not attend a United Methodist Church. If it does make sense,
then you know it's time for Annual Conference. Please be in
prayer for the NC Conference as they meet this week in Greenville
NC.

God has blessed us with a new daughter...
Amber Marie Zorowski was born this afternoon at 12:51.
She weighed in at a whopping 5 pounds, 13 ounces.

Church Mice in the News
It seems the upcoming Church Mice episode of "American Bible
Society Presents"
has brought my name across the desk of more than one newspaper
reporter.
In the past week I have been interviewed by three different
news organizations,
and as of today have been featured in articles in two of them,
with the third
running an article next week.

Media Exposure
To help promote the upcoming appearance of "Church
Mice" on
"American Bible Society Presents," a PR firm in New
York City contacted me last week
to set up interviews with the "Whiteville News Reporter"
and the "Wilmington Star."
I will also be interviewed this week by the "Tabor City
Tribune."
All this over some silly little cartoons I started drawing five
and a half years ago...
and I never really thought it would amount to anything.
Just goes to prove what God can do!

The Dreaded
Brown Recluse
Two and a half weeks ago my wife was bitten by
a Brown Recluse Spider. Thanks to the prayers of many caring
people, she is doing better, but still has a long ways to go.
We are also happy to announce that the NC Conference has seen
fit to appoint
us to Bethel-Lebanon for another twelve months.

lived in a parsonage,

The DaVinci
Code Cartoon
I must give credit where
credit is due... the idea for this week's cartoon came
from the church sign in front of Abundant Life Assembly
of God in Whiteville NC.
When I saw it, I said, "Now THAT would make a good Church
Mice cartoon!"

The Power
of the Internet
Each week, as part of the
"Daily Irish News," a daily email newsletter,
"Pastor Z's Weekly Sermon" goes out to over 100,000
readers. This morning,
the editor of the newsletter included the following note regarding
this week's
sermon on Mother's Day:
"Many wrote in, thanking me for
the sermon/cartoon from Karl. YEAH KARL!
One lady, Samantha, she said that it made her cry, the sermon
did. She called her mom, whom she had not spoken to in over
25 years, and they both got to crying, and then
she thanked her...as she ended the call, Samantha tells me she
felt the need to pray to
God for forgiveness, and to ask Him into her heart. She became
Born Again,
and it all got started with Karl and his Sermon. See, Karl,
you do reach the peeps."
How
cool is that? God works in mighty ways, each and every day.
He is even the God of the Internet!

New strip added. We survived a very scary visit early this
afternoon from
Hurricane Charlie. He came ashore about 45 miles south of here.
Lots of rain and wind, but thankfully no damage. Last year after
Hurricane Isabel, I vowed that
the next time I moved it would be to somewhere out west where
there are no
hurricanes. Then God called me to serve as minister for two
of the greatest
churches in the world - right in the middle of "Hurricane
Alley."
I wouldn't trade it for the world!
August

New strip added. Life here as a pastor in Whiteville is absolutely
wonderful!
The people here have been so good to Cheryl and Aspen and I
since we
arrived in June. There is no doubt but that this is where God
wants me to be.

Church Mice got its 40.000th visitor today!
July 19,

We spent yesterday afternoon and today at beautiful Lake
Waccamaw
visiting members of our church family. While there, we saw several
alligators in the canal next to the lake. This was the first
time
Cheryl (being from Colorado) has ever seen an alligator in the
wild.
This guy was less than ten feet away from us!
July 17,

Church Mice is now making its first appearances in Kenya,
India and Nigeria.

We move to Whiteville on Tuesday. Today was my last Sunday
preaching at Leah's Chapel and Shiloh United Methodist. Cheryl
and I will
really miss the wonderful people at these two churches. Next
Sunday
we begin a new journey at Bethel and Lebanon United Methodist
Churches.
I should be back to drawing new toons within the next couple
weeks.
Thank you for your patience!

Still no baby Zorowski yet - we're expecting her anyday

What a week! On
Tuesday evening we went into false labor from 11 PM until
about 3 AM. Needless to say, we really thought little Aspen
was on her way!
Earlier that day, I sat before the District Committee on Ordained
Ministry as part
of my approval process to become a licensed pastor. Today, I
received a letter
from the District Superintendent saying I passed the interview.
It's hard for
me to believe God took someone like me and turned my life around
to the
point I'm going to become a licensed pastor. The Lord truly
IS amazing!

My wife and I recently had a 3-D Ultrasound done of our

Last Sunday was my first day as a minister.
The two charges under my care are
Leah's Chapel United Methodist Church and Shiloh United Methodist
Church, both
located in Louisburg NC. The Lord has placed me in two wonderful
churches full of
loving people. My wife Cheryl and I were warmly welcomed by
both congregations.
It will be a blessing to serve these two fine families of believers!

Today
"Church Mice" received its 25,000th visitor!
Thank you for your support of this cartoon ministry!
My first Sunday as a minister...
Well... yesterday went like this... due to snow and ice both
church services were cancelled! So I in fact did NOT get to
preach yesterday. My wife and I took advantage of the opportunity
to go back to our home church for one last service. We had to
drive through pretty deplorable conditions to get there, but
it was meant for us to be at that service yesterday. Our minister's
message was all about following where God leads, even if it
means getting up and leaving where you're comfortable (how's
that for a custom-fit message?) And the last hymn we sang yesterday
was "Here I am Lord." Now, here's the amazing thing - two years
ago when I was called, I was sitting in another church singing
a hymn, and it was "Here I am Lord". It was meant for us to
be there yesterday. I guess God needed me to be ministered to
one more time before setting me off on my own. Too bad all the
rest of North Carolina had to get buried under snow and ice
to make it happen, but I'm thankful things worked out like they
did.
January
24, 2004
God is wonderful! I
was appointed this week to serve as interim pastor for
two small churches here in the community: Shiloh United Methodist
Church
and Leah's Chapel United Methodist Church. Tomorrow morning
I will preach
my first sermon as a real minister! This will be a part-time
position in
addition
to my full-time job as Exhibits Coordinator for State Parks.
Please keep us in your prayers.

Happy 1st Anniversary to my dear wife
Cheryl!
It's been a wonderful beginning
to a life together. God has blessed us.
November
15, 2003
What a week! Cheryl and
I had a real scare on Wednesday with the pregnancy.
The doctors had been unable to find a stomach on the baby during
our second ultrasound,
so they had us return for an emergency ultrasound Thursday.
A lot of folks prayed for us,
and I'm relieved to say things turned out fine. The doctor said
our baby looks very healthy,
and that she seems to be a perfect baby. It's wonderful what
prayer can do!
Aspen Nicole Zorowski, 11/13/03
Almost looks like she's praying, doesn't it?

At a charge conference this week, North Raleigh United Methodist
Church
voted to endorse me as a candidate for ordained ministry.
I will be going through the
candidacy process under the guidance of
Reverend Jeff Arthurs, Wendell United Methodist Church.
In other news, my 73-year-old father climbed back behind the
wheel of a
race car last Saturday for the first time since 1988... and
yes, he's still got it!

I received a rejection notice this week from the Washington
Post Writers Group
on my submittal of "Church Mice" for their 2004
Fine Toon Fellowship. Although
it was a disappointment, it was not a discouragement. I truly
see this as
God's way of opening other avenues for "Church Mice."
If the comic was tied in
with the Fellowship for the next twelve months there would be
many other doors
I couldn't approach. And who knows what might behind one of
them?! Amen!
